Current Members

Incoming Freshers

A message to incoming Freshers from the MCR President, Joseph Hickie:

To the student who is anxiously considering what COVID means for your first year at Trinity: Unfortunately, your first term and perhaps longer will not be exactly what you thought when you first signed up to Oxford.

However, we are all working very hard to make sure that we still have an amazing time here. As an MCR, we will still be hosting events and supporting one another – if anything, more so than ever before.

If you have any concerns that you’d like to ask a current member of Trinity MCR about, please don't hesitate to get in touch with anybody on the MCR Committee. Also, incoming freshers are welcome to join our MCR Facebook group to keep up to date with information we're putting out.

While this period will be different, it will still be fantastic and we're looking forward to you joining us for the COVID rendition of Michaelmas 2020!

Frequently Asked Questions

+ COVID-19 FAQs

+ Where can I find up-to-date information about COVID-19 at Trinity/Oxford?

Please check Trinity’s official COVID-19 webpage for the most up-to-date information regarding COVID-19 for current MCR members. The University of Oxford’s own COVID-19 webpage is also relevant for all students, including information on grants and travel.

+ Will College be serving lunch and dinner/formals? Is the MCR kitchen open?

Due to hygiene concerns, all communal kitchens on the main college site – including the MCR kitchen – will remain closed. The Hall has a range of menus, including a cold takeaway service, to provide breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Due to the reduced capacity of the dining hall with social distancing measures and the need to reduce large groups queuing, you will now need to sign on for meals two days in advance and pay in advance; half-hour sittings can be booked and 2m distancing will reduce the hall capacity to 24 for each seating.

College will deliver food to the rooms of students who need to quarantine from 21/9/20.

+ Is the Beer Cellar (college bar) open?

The college beer cellar will open for coffee and drinks, but capacity will be limited to 16 with a maximum stay of 2 hours. A takeaway service will be provided so you can take drinks to the marquee.

+ Can I socialise on the College lawns?

The gardens may be used by college members adhering to social distancing of 2m; an outdoor marquee will provide additional space for socially-distanced group meetings and socialising.

+ How will my Trinity experience be different from normal times?

There will be far more restrictions on socialising during the start of this academic year. The MCR committee is doings its best to make Freshers' Week an enjoyable one, and will likely be holding more events outside (so bring coats in case it's cold!). Food will still be served in college, and sports such as rowing will still be able to take place.

+ Can I show friends round Trinity or bring them to the MCR?

For the start of the 2020/21 academic year, College is closed to all non-college members, and socialising is only allowed within staircase bubbles (no intermixing of bubbles). Therefore, the MCR must be closed for the foreseeable future, though a booking system may be put in place for its use for single-property/staircase bubbles.

+ Can I use the Trinity gym?

The Trinity gym is currently closed and its use is not permitted. It will not be open for the start of the 2020/21 academic year.

However, you can use the Buxx gym.

+ Can I use the Trinity library?

The main Library building remains closed (and the building work would be very disruptive in any case). The Library team will provide a Click & Collect book service, which students can request by email.

The Lawns Pavilion reading room will be open 8am-midnight daily from 0th week. Face coverings will need to be worn and students must clean their desks before and after use with the wipes provided.
